Integrity / HIADO | Jamie Lynn Services

01 / Integrity / HIADO

There is idle compute everywhere.
Schools need it.

HIADO — the Human Integrity Anti-Dishonesty Organization — is an early-stage effort to connect organizations with unused computing capacity to schools that need capacity for academic integrity work.

Right now it is one arrangement between one doctor’s office and one school. This page is an honest account of what exists, what does not, and who we need.

02 How it started

It started at a football game.

Not a strategy session. An actual conversation about an actual problem, between people who happened to be standing near each other.

Our kid is on the local football team. Through that, we learned that a local doctor’s office has a server with capacity it does not use overnight — and that a nearby school needed computing capacity to support its academic integrity work.

So the doctor’s office lets the school run documents through during off hours. When the practice’s machine is not doing clinical work, that capacity goes to the school instead of sitting idle.

Jamie Lynn Services helped facilitate that one arrangement. That is the entire track record. It is also the reason we think the model is worth building properly — because the pieces were already sitting there, unconnected.

The hardware already exists. The need already exists. What is missing is the organization that connects them and keeps everybody honest about how it works.

The people carrying the integrity problem already.
Excess capacity in one building. Unmet need in another. Nothing connecting them.

03 How the model works

Off hours. Separate drive. Defined purpose.

Deliberately simple, because complexity is what makes arrangements like this fall apart.

01 / CAPACITY

Hardware that already exists.

Many organizations own capable machines that sit idle for most of the day. A business does not need to buy anything for its unused hours to be worth something to a school.

02 / SEPARATION

A separate environment.

The academic work runs from its own drive and its own environment, so it stays distinct from whatever the machine does during business hours.

03 / PURPOSE

A defined use.

The school runs documents through for academic integrity review. The scope of what the arrangement is for gets agreed before it starts, not after.

04 Where we stand on AI

The “anti” is attached to dishonesty. Not to the tool.

This needs saying plainly, because an organization with “anti-dishonesty” in its name can easily be mistaken for an organization that is against AI. We are not.

We believe AI can genuinely elevate human academia, human knowledge, and human efficiency. Used where it is permitted, it is a good thing, and people should use the tools available to them.

A carpenter uses a screw gun and says so. A mechanic uses an air ratchet and says so. Nobody thinks less of either of them for it. A student or researcher using a permitted tool is in exactly the same position — it is work, done with the tools of the trade.

The problem was never the tool. It is using it where you were told not to, or being dishonest about having used it. That is not an AI problem. That is the same integrity problem academia has always had, with a new instrument attached to it.

We do not like lying on any level. That is the actual position. Cheating academia is not something we are down with — and neither is accusing someone who did nothing wrong.
// WHERE THE LINE SITS
Permitted use, disclosed: fine
Permitted use, undisclosed: ask the rules
Prohibited use: the actual problem
Lying about it: the actual problem
01 / EDUCATORS SET THE RULE

Not us.

What is permitted in a given course, program, or institution is the educator’s decision. HIADO has no business defining what counts as acceptable tool use in somebody else’s classroom.

02 / THE WORK IS SUPPORT

Evidence, not verdicts.

Capacity supports review. It helps an educator look at a question properly. It does not decide whether someone was dishonest, and it should never be presented as though it did.

03 / FALSE ACCUSATION IS A HARM

Both directions matter.

An honest student wrongly accused has been harmed by the system that was supposed to protect integrity. We take that failure as seriously as the one it was built to catch.

// Jamie Lynn Services has its own preference for deterministic computing over probabilistic systems. That is a JLS engineering position, not a HIADO position, and it has no place in this organization’s mission.

05 What HIADO is not

We would rather say this first.

An early-stage idea described as a finished program does damage. Here is everything HIADO currently is not.

  • NOT A REGISTERED NONPROFITHIADO is not a 501(c)(3) or any other recognized charitable entity yet. Nothing contributed to it should be treated as a tax-deductible charitable gift.
  • NOT A FUNDED ORGANIZATIONThere is no budget, no staff, and no independent funding. Jamie Lynn Services is currently absorbing the cost of the idea existing at all.
  • NOT A PROVEN PROGRAMOne facilitated arrangement is not a program. We have not validated this model at any scale, and we will not describe it as though we have.
  • NOT A CHEATING DETECTORAcademic integrity work supports human review. A similarity score is not plagiarism, and an AI-likelihood score is not proof of authorship. Those decisions belong to educators.
  • NOT FREE COMPUTEDonated capacity still costs electricity, wear, administration, and somebody’s attention. Any honest version of this model accounts for that rather than pretending it is costless.
  • NOT VERIFIED ISOLATIONA separate boot drive is a useful separation. It is not a security guarantee, and we do not present it as one.

// Our own published research examines these limits directly, including the limits of the architecture we would be advocating. We would rather publish the questions than hide them.

06 Governance

Why I will not sit on the board.

This is the part that has slowed HIADO down, and it is the part we are least willing to shortcut.

Jamie Lynn Services sells hardware. If HIADO rewarded organizations for contributing compute, and I were the person deciding who gets rewarded, I would be making financial decisions that could benefit my own company. That is a conflict of interest, and describing it any other way would be dishonest.

So the position is simple: I am happy to fund it, facilitate arrangements, and contribute compute. I am not going to run it, sit on its board, or make its money decisions.

That means HIADO cannot become real until other people show up — specifically people who are willing to hold the financial and governance responsibility independently of my company. Until then, it stays what it is: one arrangement and an honest description.

It has to develop itself, or it does not develop. That is slower. It is also the only version of this worth building.
// ROLE BOUNDARIES
JLS: funds, facilitates, contributes compute
JLS: does not govern
JLS: does not decide incentives
Board: independent, not yet formed
Financial decisions: not ours to make

07 Who we need

This is the ask.

If you are passionate about academic integrity and want to help build something from the ground floor, this is an unusually open door.

01 / MOST NEEDED

People who can make money decisions.

Independent board members and financial decision-makers with no stake in Jamie Lynn Services. This is the blocking requirement — nothing else moves until this exists.

02 / EDUCATORS

People who know the problem.

Teachers and administrators who deal with academic integrity in practice and can say what would actually help, versus what sounds good in a proposal.

03 / INTERNS

Students who want the experience.

Where a school or program allows it, this may be an opportunity for academic credit. Real governance, real problems, an organization being built from nothing.

04 / ORGANIZATIONS

Anyone with idle hardware.

If you own capable machines that sit unused overnight, that capacity could support a school. We can talk through what an arrangement would involve.

It has to develop itself, or it does not develop.

08 Where we hope this goes

A belief, clearly labeled as a belief.

We are not going to dress a hope up as a roadmap.

It is our belief that within roughly a year, HIADO could be a self-sustaining, functioning not-for-profit — keeping its name, with people who volunteer or are properly paid to run it, doing something genuinely useful in the world.

That is a belief, not a commitment, a forecast, or a plan with funding behind it. Whether it happens depends entirely on whether the right people show up, and we have no way to promise that they will.

If they do, HIADO gets its own home at hiado.org and stops being a page on a company website. If they do not, this stays what it is today: one honest arrangement between a doctor’s office and a school, which was worth doing regardless.
